Thankful

Ahhhh!
What a lovely long weekend!
This year Thanksgiving has been soooo wonderful!
As much as I love my school - I can't tell you what a blessing it is to walk out of my bedroom door and NOT be at work!  It has really been nice having the school out of the house.
This year, I only had ONE Thanksgiving dinner at my house and only 13 people came.  It was so relaxing! And I got to actually sit down and spend time with my loved ones instead of just managing the chaos.

Some may argue, but I'm pretty sure I have the best kids in the whole world. (Not to say that I don't love all my youth groupies - they're pretty wonderful too!).  My girls got up at 5:00AM on Friday just to humor me in the experience of after Thanksgiving shopping.  I don't think I will ever do that again - but they sure made it fun in spite of the madness.

An Ode To My Babies:

ROOO - You are getting so grown up and responsible! (ok, I know that is totally cliche - but I am a mom!)  You care so deeply about your friends that your heart often hurts as much as theirs, but they'll never know it. I'm so proud of you for pursuing your dreams with all these college applications - I can't wait to see what God has in store.
LOTTPD - I love that part of you that says "I don't care what other people say about my hair color - I like it!"  Rock on! I love that you are mature enough to recognize what you're not yet mature enough for (Is that ironic?)

DDM - You are one of the most thoughtful and nurturing young men I know.  I am so proud of the way you look out for and try to protect the women in your life.  Promise me you'll never leave me for another woman.

Green Eggs and Ham - You're the most out of the box fifth grader I know.  Not everyone who has just entered double digits can appreciate that, but I sure do.  You're an awesome kid.

Father of the Bride: Arab style

5:00AM
The phone rings.
It's our friends in Kuwait.  You know, the actor that we have that doll of in our family room, the one on the poster in our kitchen.  They've been trying to get a hold of us for two weeks.  They keep leaving messages on our answering machine. His wife is on the phone too.  They ask for Abu Daoud (that's Mike: father of David).  They remind us that they bought our furniture when we left the country and since it is always in the house, they cannot forget us.
Remember that third floor of our house that we built to be an appartment for our oldest son?  Well, it's finished and we've completely furnished it. All it needs now is a woman's touch.  He needs a wife.  So we were wondering about your daughters . .
The thing is, this guy is a comedy actor and he's known for coming up with some outrageously funny gags, so Mike's practically rolling on the floor with laughter.
Long pause:  (Accented English:) "I'm SERIOUS!"   It's ok, I know it's really early and we woke you up, don't give us an answer now, think about it and we'll call you back later.

The request is a real compliment to our family and our friendship with this couple.  Now all we have to do is figure out how to thank them for the honor of being asked while graciously explaining that we don't think our daughters are not quite old enough for marriage yet!
